Scammers pretend to be tech support. These rules are how you tell us apart. How remote help works
We'll never call you out of the blue and ask you to install anything. Remote help only starts after you contact us.
Only ever start a download from thetechguy.services. We'll never email you a download link.
We never type a password on the affected computer. Resets are done from a different device.
The Incident Reset: we contain it, recover it and write it down.
The sooner the computer comes off the network and your sessions are ended, the less there is to undo.
For one affected computer and your Microsoft 365. You get a written proposal first, and it can be the same day. Nothing starts until you accept it.
Every response includes the four safety steps talked through free on the first call, and your computer left on our standard protection setup, whatever you decide next. A structured assessment and a written incident report for your bank or insurer are quoted case by case.
What the response covers
Collection and a structured assessment of the affected computer, with each evidence file fingerprinted.
The scam tool removed, with its connection records kept first.
Previous providers' remote-access tools removed, along with anything set to reinstall them.
Previous providers' admin access removed from your Microsoft 365. Your own access stays.
Microsoft Defender with tamper protection turned on and checked.
Two separate scans with different tools.
Windows updated, and the security log set to keep its history.
A written incident report for your bank or insurer, sent with your permission.
A plain-English incident report for you.
What it doesn’t
Follow-up work after your computer is back with you.
Anything inside your bank. Only you can do that, directly with your bank.
An investigation for court or a disputed claim. If your case needs one, we refer you to a specialist and keep the device preserved.
Every incident is different. $160 + GST per hour, quoted in a written proposal before we start.
Our promise. Nothing starts until you’ve accepted the written proposal. If we find something outside its scope, we stop, tell you what it is and what it would cost, and nothing extra happens unless you say yes in writing.
Gabriel provided outstanding service. He identified the issue and implemented a solution to address our wifi problems. His communication was excellent both pre and post appointment. He was prompt, efficient and his rates were very reasonable. Would highly recommend.
Gabriel's service was phenomenal. He was very polite, warm, knowledgable, efficient and very clear with his communication and actions as we walked me through the process. It wasn't just a fix, it was educational, so next time, I can handle the problem myself. I strongly recommend Gabriel for any tech-related services.
Gabriel sorted out my computer issues for a home network, fixing a number of tricky corruption issues, ensuring my computers were synced and files backed up to both the cloud and an external hard drive. His knowledge, expertise and helpful demeanor was greatly appreciated.
Gabriel attended our office in Hastings Street and helped with our microsoft issues. Efficient and Knowledgeable. We will be happy to use Gabriel again for future needs.
Gabriel has a rare gift. He doesn’t just solve technical problems he helps people regain confidence.
His patience, kindness and ability to explain things in small, manageable steps make technology feel accessible rather than overwhelming.
He creates an environment where questions are welcomed and people feel safe to learn, regardless of their starting point.
For anyone navigating major life changes, rebuilding independence, supporting family members, or simply needing trustworthy guidance with technology, I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Technical skill is important. Human skill is invaluable.
Gabriel brings both.
Every computer we look after starts on the same setup.
Microsoft Defender, with tamper protection on.
Windows kept up to date.
The security log kept, so sign-in history can be reviewed later.
Unapproved remote-access tools removed.
Connected to our support platform, so we can help quickly next time.
The protection stays on whatever plan you’re on. If your business has Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Defender for Business is already in the licence, and it’s often paid for and never switched on. Without a plan, setting it up is a one-off job at $160/hr + GST, quoted before it starts. Compare the plans.
Optional add-on
Optional: Stay Protected with Premium
The incident response puts your computer on our standard setup. That means Microsoft Defender running with tamper protection on, Windows up to date, the security log keeping its history, unapproved remote-access tools removed, and our support platform connected. The protection we set up stays on your computer, whatever you decide next.
Premium keeps it that way. Instead of waiting for the next problem, we keep checking and act first.
Premium
$150+ GST per person per month
Ongoing checks, not only repairs. Each of your computers is checked remotely and regularly for updates, security status, disk health and performance. Anything that slips is put right in business hours, before it turns into a problem.
Every computer on the same setup. Premium is priced per person, not per computer, so all your computers are brought to the same standard and kept there at no extra plan cost.
A dedicated hour of support, every week. It's time set aside for you whether or not anything has gone wrong.
Priority response. Urgent requests are handled first, within the business-hours response times in our Statement of Work.
Your setup on record. Documentation of your computers and accounts is kept current.
Prefer not to commit? You can call us whenever you need help on our Essentials plan at $50 a month plus GST per person, or book us at our standard rate. We'll bring your other computers up to the same setup as a one-off job, quoted first.
What Premium doesn't add: around-the-clock security monitoring. If you need it, ask us and we'll put together a tailored proposal.
Premium isn't a condition of the incident work or the bank report.
Premium is $150 a month plus GST per person, about $7 a working day. Accept the add-on and we handle everything from there. There's no lock-in: you can cancel with written notice. Full scope, service levels and terms are in our Managed Services Statement of Work, which comes with your proposal.
When something goes wrong, here’s what happens.
Message or call the number you already know. Incident response follows a documented process, in this order.
01Contain itThe affected device comes off the network without losing what's on it. You get banking guidance straight away, and keep working on a separate device.
02Preserve the recordsWe collect the device's records before we change anything. Each evidence file we collect gets a fingerprint, so any later change to it can be detected. Banks and insurers ask about this later.
03Recover in the right orderWe end every signed-in session first, then check for any access left behind, before anything is reset. Then your email and Microsoft accounts, then the rest, with multi-factor sign-in at each step. You change your own passwords, privately. Nobody records them.
04Scan, and report it honestlyFresh updates, a full scan, then a second scan with a different tool. If nothing turns up, the report says “no detections” and lists exactly what was checked.
05Write it downA plain-English report, with facts kept apart from opinion and anything unknown marked as unknown.
06Close it properlyThe case closes when the checklist is done, not when the report is sent. Your device comes back only once its protection is checked and working.
Recovery after an incident is its own piece of work, on every plan. You get the scope and the price in writing first, and nothing starts until you approve it.
What we won’t tell you.
One rule worth remembering.
An unexpected request to install software, allow remote access, share a code or move money? Stop. Contact us on the number you already know. For anything about your bank, contact your bank directly.

Questions people ask.
Scams and suspicious calls
I let someone onto my computer. What do I do now?
Disconnect that computer from the internet, and leave it off if it’s already off. Then call your bank from a different device, even if no money has moved. Don’t use the affected computer to change passwords or log in anywhere. Once the bank knows, message or call us and we’ll work through it with you.
Microsoft called about a virus on my computer. Is it real?
Treat it as a scam. Microsoft’s genuine error messages don’t include a phone number to call, and caller ID or a familiar logo doesn’t prove who’s calling. Hang up, and contact us on a number you already know before you install anything or let anyone connect.
Do you help households, or only businesses?
Both. At home: Every case is different. $160/hr inc GST, and we tell you before we start. For a business: Every incident is different. $160 + GST per hour, quoted in a written proposal before we start. Anything extra is quoted before it starts.
Can you start before I've signed anything?
We’ll always talk you through the four safety steps for free. Hands-on work starts once you’ve said yes to what we’ve told you it will cost, in our proposal app or by a written “yes” by email or text. That can be the same day.
Protecting a business
Is Defender for Business already in my Microsoft licence?
If your business has Microsoft 365 Business Premium, yes. It’s often paid for and never switched on. We check your licences first, then switch it on and confirm each device is actually reporting.
Is recovering from an incident included in a plan?
No. Recovery after an incident is its own piece of work on every plan, because no two incidents are the same. You get the scope and the price in writing first, and nothing starts until you approve it.
Do I have to take Premium?
No. Premium isn’t a condition of the incident work or the bank report. It’s $150 + GST per person per month, and there’s no lock-in: you can cancel at any time with written notice.
Do I have to report a data breach?
If personal information may have been exposed, we put that question to you properly, on the record, before anything is wiped. Whether you must notify is your assessment to make, and we don’t give legal advice. The OAIC explains the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
What we'll say, and won't
Will you tell me my computer is safe now?
We’ll tell you what our checks found. If they find nothing, the report says “no detections” and lists exactly what was checked. No scan can prove a computer is free of every threat, so we never say it is.
What if I might make an insurance claim?
Tell us early. Rebuilding a computer destroys what a claim may need, so we raise the insurance question with you before anything is wiped.
Simple things that help
Install updates when they're offeredUpdates fix security holes that scammers look for. If your computer or phone asks to restart for one, let it.
Use a different password for each accountIf one password leaks, the others stay shut. A password manager remembers them, so you only need to remember one.
Turn on multi-factor sign-inYour email and bank then ask for a code from your phone as well as your password. A stolen password on its own won't get someone in.
Keep a copy of your photos and filesBack them up to the cloud or an external drive. If the computer fails or is locked by a scam, your files are still there.
Hang up on calls asking for remote accessIf someone calls you first and asks to connect to your computer, it isn't us. Hang up, then call the company on a number you already know.
